The greatest joy for a parent is spending time with their children. From the first time we hold our baby in our arms it is clear that there will never be anything as important to us as that child. We will love and protect them at all costs for as long as they are dependent on us. This is the job of a parent.

A lot of parents make the choice of having one work while the other stays at home to take care of the kids. The parent at home is not only responsible for the well-being of the children but for the well-being of the entire family and home they live in. Both parents have important jobs.

Children grow up very fast. Older parents always tell the younger ones to enjoy every minute of your child at every age because childhood goes away in a flash. We think we get it because we have seen other people’s children as well as our nieces and nephews speed from infant to grade school to college graduate. It is only our own children that really drive this lesson home.

It seems like no time at all and our newborn baby is suddenly walking and talking. Then we blink and they are starting kindergarten. We’ve probably all heard it said that they slowly need us less and less and that it doesn’t happen all at once, but the first day that they leave us for kindergarten sure feels like it came on all at once.

Then before we know it our five year old ball of fire who had us constantly on our toes is graduating high school. We never think when we give birth to our little baby that we will turn around one day and they will be 18 and graduating high school. But it happens all too quickly and then we find ourselves at home by ourselves with children that don’t need us to take care of them anymore.

I’ll tell you what. Staying at home with nobody to take care of and play with drives most everybody nuts. First thought about how to help this situation is to go back to work. Not easy when you have not been in the workforce for at least 18 years and your resume is a real dog. If you do get an interview, you will find that every single applicant is a couple of decades younger than you with a sexy up-to-date resume in hand.

It has always been difficult to get back into a career after a long absence, but in today’s economy it is almost impossible. Staying home and going certifiably insane is not an option. We would enjoy making an income until the working party in the family retires and the thrill of travel begins. Nowadays there is a way where you can make money from home and no experience is necessary.

With the new software and technology any of us can start our own successful online business. We don’t need work experience or a degree to do it. Any of us can help contribute income by working at home using all the same skills it took to raise our children: determination, patience, and hard work.

We all love to be able to raise our children, but eventually they grow up and need us less. So when your children grow up, which they all do eventually, don’t just sit at home going crazy, do something. Step out in the work force and kick butt. You go girl!
